As required for enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act, veterinary medical officers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture regularly conduct routine, unannounced inspections of facilities that house animals for research. In August of 2021, USDA inspectors conducted a focused inspection of animals, facilities and associated records at sites across the UW–Madison campus.
USDA inspectors found the sites to be in compliance with the AWA.
