Inspection report: IACUC process review

Research protocols aimed at explaining the way early life stress can lead to anxiety and depression got full and thorough consideration from University of Wisconsin–Madison campus animal care and use committees, according to inspectors from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Veterinary medical officers from USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service were on campus Aug. 25, following up on a complaint made to USDA by the Animal Legal Defense Fund.

The USDA’s inspectors, after scrutinizing records and the process followed by UW–Madison institutional animal care and use committees in reviewing the study’s plans for rhesus monkeys, found the process followed by committee members to be in full compliance with federal regulations.
